Subrule · Chapter 1

cr:1.9.3a

If a replacement effect modifies an event as part of a named-event, but it does not modify the named-event as a whole, the named-event retains its name.

Example: Mark of the Beast has the text “If this would be put into your graveyard from anywhere, instead banish it.” If Mark of the Beast would be discarded, the replacement effect modifies the move event to become a banish event, but it does not affect the named-event as a whole. Mark of the Beast would leave the hand and be put into the banished zone as a discard and a banish, triggering any effects that are conditional on those respective events occurring.
